The National PTA Reflections Art Program theme for the 2015-16 school year is Let Your Imagination Fly! Each year hundreds of students in the Glendale Unified School District create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts.
Lincoln Elementary winners were invited to the Lincoln Auditorium with their families to be recognized for their artwork. The Lincoln Auditorium was transformed into an art gallery with the students’ artwork on display while student council members passed out apple cider and appetizers to the Lincoln artists and their families.
Master of ceremonies was first grade teacher Nicolas James, who passed out the awards to the Lincoln artists. The winning pieces were sent to GUSD PTA headquarters to be judged with the other artwork from Glendale Unified schools. Two Lincoln students placed first in the primary division. First grader Peter James was recognized for dance choreography and second grader Jobson Kimura was honored for his film production. The boys were recognized at the February GUSD school board meeting and then their artwork was sent to the first district for another round of judging. Peter and Jobson also placed in the PTA First District Contest at Baldwin Stocker Elementary in Arcadia. Peter placed third, earning The Award of Merit and Jobson placed first to earn Outstanding Interpretation in Southern California.
