The Glendale Council PTA recognized community supporters at its Feb. 24 Founder’s Day dinner. Founder’s Day is a day the PTA thanks those who have made a positive impact on the community.

The ceremony took place at Crescenta Valley High School and held some of Glendale Unified School District’s most recognizable names.

Guests watched the 2011 Reflections contest presentation, were joined by CVHS Air Force Junior ROTC Color Guard and were entertained by the very talented Crescenta Valley High School Jazz Band.

Past council presidents were present to show their support including Virginia Young, who herself went through the Glendale School system, then shepherded eight children through it.

Susan Hunt of the Glendale Education Foundation was also a part of the night’s festivities and presented this year’s award for continuing service to Glendale Healthy Kids, accepted by board president Allyn Heck.

CV Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition was chosen for the honorary service award for the organization’s efforts in helping kids stay on the right track and educating parents on related issues. President Matt Zakarian was present to receive the award.

Paula Devine accepted the honorary service award on behalf of the Commission on the Status of Women for their aid to women in the area.

Also recognized was Laurel Perlman, R.D. White’s PTA president, for her dedication to the safety of the morning drop off of the children at her school.

As a thank you to Perlman for her commitment, PTA members and R.D. White principal Suzanne Risse presented her with the award in an unexpected and musical way. Their rendition of a tune from the “Sound of Music” had the audience smiling through their performance of “How do you solve a problem like the traffic?”

Dr. Mary Mason, Mark Keppel Elementary principal, welcomed a very loving thank you from her students, staff and husband on the overhead projection for her service.

Glendale High School principal Dr. Katherine Fundukian Thorossian received her award with her family ready to congratulate her upon having been presented with her plaque.
