Man Sent to Hospital After GPD Vehicle Pursuit

A 56-year-old Fontana man was transported to the hospital after being involved in an accident with another vehicle being pursued by the Glendale Police Dept.

On Tuesday at about 1 a.m. a GPD officer on patrol in the area of Brand Boulevard and Colorado Street attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle for an equipment violation. The vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old male transient, failed to stop and the officer initiated a pursuit, which continued southbound on Brand Boulevard.

The man’s vehicle collided with an uninvolved vehicle driven by the Fontana man. The suspect’s vehicle continued southbound to Eulalia Street where the driver and a passenger, a 21-year-old Los Angeles man, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

A perimeter was set up in the area of Brand Boulevard and Cerritos Avenue with assistance from the Glendale K-9 Unit and Los Angeles and Burbank police departments. The two suspects were located and taken into custody.

The Fontana man was transported to the hospital by Glendale Fire Dept. The 35-year-old Glendale man who was the passenger of the vehicle did not report any injuries.

Officers conducted a search of the suspect vehicle and located a brown substance resembling heroin, a tool often used to steal items from post office mail boxes and several items containing personal information involving individuals not related to the suspects.

The driver of the vehicle who fled the scene was charged with felony evading, felony hit and run, felony DUI, possession of a controlled substance, driving without a license, identity theft, and a $100,000 warrant for possession of stolen property.

The passenger of that vehicle was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, identity theft, and resisting arrest.

The case remains under investigation by detectives.
