A car driven down the sidewalk in the 2100 block of Honolulu Avenue narrowly missed diners in front of Zeke’s Barbecue before coming to a stop in front of Star Cafe. No one was injured.

This afternoon just before 4 p.m., a 65-year-old man was driving westbound on Verdugo Boulevard crossing Verdugo Road when he apparently turned onto the sidewalk on the north side of Honolulu Avenue in the 2100 block. On the sidewalk he continued to drive westbound passing Once Upon A Time bookstore and approaching Zeke’s Barbecue where people were eating in the outside dining area. A mother, father and 15-month-old child were sitting outside when the car approached. The child was in a booster seat and seeing the car coming the mother reportedly lunged for the child, grabbing the child out of the booster seat to safety.

The car came to rest after hitting a barrier in front of Star Café after damaging two light posts, destroying one completely.

No one was injured said Sgt. Tweedy of the Glendale Police Dept.

At this time it is not known what caused the man to drive onto the sidewalk.

CV Weekly will continue to post updates as more information is released.
