On March 18, the Armenian Engineers and Scientists of America (AESA) held its 11th Annual Science Olympiad at Woodbury University’s main campus in Burbank. The competition, organized by AESA’s Science Olympiad Committee, promotes engineering and sciences to middle and high school students through mentoring programs and the annual Science Olympiad.

Eleven Chamlian Armenian School students participated in this year’s AESA Science Olympiad where, once again, the school garnered several top prizes.     Mathew Hartounian and Lara Rostomian won first place in the Life Science and Physical Science categories respectively. Patrick Begian won second place in the Physical Science category. Talar Kassabian won third place in the Life Science category. Sevag Keosseian won an honorable mention in the Physical Science category.

During the awards ceremony, Chamlian’s science teacher and department chair Lida Gevorkian received a Teacher Appreciation Award for her many years of commitment and for her work mentoring and inspiring Chamlian students as they prepare for the Olympiad each year.

On behalf of Chamlian Armenian School, Principal Vazken Madenlian received the distinguished School of the Year Award of Excellence in Science.

“I am extremely proud of our students and faculty members for their exceptional work and accomplishments, and appreciate the tremendous parent support we receive in all our endeavors,” said Madenlian.
