Jog-A-Thon at Dunsmore
Dunsmore Elementary School is having its 5th Annual Jog-A-Thon on Friday, March 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the lower field. The PTA fundraiser is an opportunity for about 400 Dunsmore students (kindergarten through sixth grade) to stay healthy while also raising funds to support the school’s programs including funding educational assemblies, field trips, art and science docents, computer software and other PTA events.

PTA members, parent volunteers and teachers will be on the field throughout the day to support the little “Hilltoppers.”     Anyone who would like to contribute to the event can sponsor a student or call Dunsmore’s office at (818) 248-1758, or visit the school website

SAT Seminars Offered
Assistance League of Glendale is offering low cost SAT seminars again this March.

The four-week course starts March 4. There are two sessions, Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $45 which covers the sessions, a book and refreshments. Registration forms are available at, local high school counselors’ offices and at Thrift Alley, 314-A Harvard St. Glendale or call (818) 247-4296.

The seminars are held at Assistance League at 314 E. Harvard St. in Glendale.

Kohl’s Offers Scholarships
The Kohl’s Department Stores Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program will award more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes this year. Ranging from $50 Kohl’s gift cards to $10,000 scholarships, more than 2,300 young volunteers who have made a positive impact on their communities will be selected. Nominations for kids ages 6 to 18 will be accepted through March 15 at Visit the website to learn how to make a nomination. Nominators must be 21 years or older.

Two nominees from each of the more than 1,100 Kohl’s stores nationwide will win a $50 Kohl’s gift card, and more than 200 will win regional scholarships worth $1,000 toward post-secondary education. Ten national winners will be awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships for post-secondary education, and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf.

All Teens Invited to MOVE Fair
Glendale, La Crescenta and La Cañada teenagers are invited to attend this year’s annual Teens MOVE – Many Opportunities for Volunteering and Employment – Fair on Feb. 21 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Crescenta Valley High School quad. At Teens MOVE, local businesses and organizations host tables to introduce their programs and job opportunities to local teens.

Sponsored by the Crescenta-Cañada Y and the CVHS PTSA, this year’s event will include representatives from Universal Studios, TreePeople, Magic Mountain, Ahead with Horses, Rock the Vote, Tournament of Roses Association, Door of Hope and Ronald McDonald House among others. CV High students are encouraged to attend at 2 p.m. and all other area teens are invited at 3 p.m. There will be a prize drawing at 3:30 p.m. for a Kindle Fire HD.

‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’
Crescenta Valley High School presents the musical, “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.”

Take a trip back in time to a Victorian music hall where a rowdy ensemble of actors mounts a staging of Charles Dickens’ unfinished novel.

Everyone on stage is a suspect in the murder of young Edwin Drood, and it’s up to the audience to choose the killer. Each performance ends differently, depending on what the audience decides.

Showtimes are Feb. 22-23, March 1-2 at 7 p.m. and a Feb. 24 matinee at 2 p.m.

‘Friendship Circle’ at Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA is offering the Friendship Circle, a six week session designed for children ages 5-9 to enhance social skills, self-esteem and problem solving skills through games and activities. Under the direction of professional therapists, children will experience a safe place to disclose their worries and ambitions about making friends and keeping them…and have fun while learning.

The Friendship Circle is geared towards children who may have been picked on at school or are excessively shy. The group will be led by Kiersten Mikelas who helps children and families through her work as a private practice intern with Bechtol Psychotherapy in Pasadena. The six-week session will go from Feb. 20 – March 27, meeting Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This group is open to the community and there is a $65 fee.
