New Year Offers New Opportunity

Julia Rabago is the executive director of Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce.

“Another fresh new year is here . . . Another year to live! To banish worry, doubt, and fear, to love and laugh and give! This bright new year is given me to live each day with zest . . . To daily grow and try to be my highest and my best!
I have the opportunity once more to right some wrongs, to pray for peace,
to plant a tree, and sing more joyful songs!”   –William Arthur Ward

The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce wishes everyone a very happy and prosperous new year filled with peace, love and joyful songs.

Please join us on Thursday, Jan. 12 at Oakmont Country Club, 3100 Country Club Dr. in Glendale for our annual installation of officers and directors during which this year’s Mary Pinola/CV Chamber Educational Endowment Funds will be distributed.

Each year educational programs in the Crescenta Valley benefit from the hard work and generosity of Mary Pinola, members of the CV Chamber and all the people that join us in raising funds to help these programs. The Educational Endowment Fund reached out to the community in new ways, visiting sites and learning more about ways the Educational Endowment Fund may enrich the Crescenta Valley. The foundation achieved their fundraising goals despite a very difficult, challenging economy and worked together to put on a successful Smart-A-Thon in March 2011 that was attended by over 120 Crescenta Valley leaders. Additionally Chris Waldheim of J’s Maintenance partnered with Mary Pinola to walk the L.A. Marathon raising money for this important cause.

On Jan. 12, at the CV Chamber’s installation luncheon almost $16,000 will be distributed to so many worthy groups. These funds go directly back into the Crescenta Valley schools, non-profit groups and medical facilities to help enrich educational services. To learn more about this program, please join us at our luncheon that will also include an incredible silent auction. Reservations are due at the chamber office by Jan. 5.

Did you get any brand new electronics for Christmas presents? The Chamber can help you recycle the old outdated PCs, CPUs, televisions, CRT monitors, printers, fax machines, copiers or most other electronics. Bring them on Saturday, Jan. 21 to our free e-waste recycling event.

The CV Chamber and SoCal Recycling are organizing this event that will take place at the chamber office parking lot at Palms Plaza, 3131 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. SoCal Recycling will make sure your e-waste is properly handled, disposed of and recycled. They also include identity theft protection via data destruction of your hard drives. They are also adding clothing, shoes, paper, cardboard and beverage containers to the collection, so round it all up and help the environment by putting less in the landfills!

Happy New Year, Crescenta Valley!
