Color Me Mine

It always fascinates me to meet the people who own a Montrose business and find out their story, namely how and why they do what they do. It’s always a discovery and I hope by sharing it in this column that you are inspired to check out a store that maybe you have not until this point. With that, allow me to introduce Sarkis and Gaya Garibyan, the owners of Color Me Mine in Montrose.

Sarkis is a successful realtor who has lived in Glendale for 30 years. He met his lovely wife Gaya, a UCLA graduate with a degree in art history, and they married in 1991. They have two daughters and thus came the inspiration to franchise Color Me Mine.

Here is the story in Gaya’s own words:

“We always liked Montrose and came here for entertainment, food or simply to walk around. Both of our girls attend school in La Cañada. Gabie is in fifth grade at La Cañada Preparatory and Audrey is a sophomore at the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. We like to spend a lot of quality time with our girls and since we have decided to raise our kids without TV we try to find creative ways to have fun with them. That’s how we came across Color Me Mine. We really liked how we got to paint and create something together and talk to each other while we were doing it.”

They had so much fun it prompted Gaya to contact the company and thus Color Me Mine Montrose (2280 Honolulu Avenue) was opened in May of 2009. For those who don’t know, CMM is a paint it yourself ceramic studio. There are hundreds of ceramics you can paint with new ones arriving weekly. All of them are non-toxic, lead free, and food safe. You simply buy the piece you want to paint and pay a small studio fee. There are always monthly specials on their website www.glendaleca.colormemine.com and Facebook page. Customers are encouraged to bring a snack and a beverage and have fun painting together.

Color Me Mine has a great staff and is well equipped to host your birthday party, fundraiser, corporate event, bridal shower, baby shower and bar mitzvah. They also know how to celebrate each holiday in style and are gearing up for the fall/Halloween season as we speak. Aren’t you glad we have this wonderful store and family in the Montrose Shopping Park!
