3rd Annual Montrose Film Festival This Weekend

Join us this weekend for the 3rd Annual Montrose Film Festival!

The Montrose Shopping Park is the place to be this Friday and Saturday night. The 3rd Annual Montrose Film Festival, created by Steve Pierce and Tony Smith and brought to you by the merchants of the Montrose Shopping Park, is back and better than ever. As Steve says, “It takes place the week after school starts and is a good way for families to take a break.” And what a fun break we have planned!

This year we will be showing “Back To The Future” on Friday night and BTTF Part 2 on Saturday night. The free event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and take place at the site of the old Montrose Theater in the lot next to Andersen’s Pets. Come walk the red carpet, grab a seat and enjoy the live music of The Maestro’s Band.

Plan to come hungry as many of our restaurants will be putting together special menus you can purchase without ever leaving your seat. The students from Prom Plus Club are generously donating their time to wait on you. For those who prefer to dine in the restaurant, you may find specials like this one from Rocky Cola that is offering, “Buy one lunch or dinner entree and get the 2nd one half off” and “Buy 3 cupcakes and get 1 free.” For those with a sweet tooth, the Montrose Candy Co. and Polkatot’s Cupcakes will have booths selling their goodies.

The “Back To The Future” movies take place in 1985, going back in time to the 1950s, and forward to 2015. A lot of us are going to have fun by dressing up in clothes from one of those time periods and we encourage you to do the same. Last week I shared what was popular to wear in the ’50s. This week let me bring back ’80s style.

For both men and women it was all about big hair and big glasses. It seemed all the guys had mustaches back then. Women were into leggings and leotards and on the other side of the coin, big shoulder pads. The Hawaiian shirt craze for guys started back then as well as the “Don Johnson look” of wearing T-shirts under suits. To further set the mood, expect to see classic cars from those periods cruising Honolulu Avenue.

So do come out and join us for a couple of nights under the stars. When you do you will be given a raffle ticket with a chance to win prizes and gift certificates from local eateries and businesses. We sure know how to have family fun in Montrose!
