It’s Big Mama’s & Papa’s Pizza Time!

This fun mural adorns the wall of Mama’s & Papa’s Pizzeria in the Montrose Shopping Park.

It all started last October. The Shopping Park finally got a fast food pizzeria. I was curious. Big Mama’s & Papa’s Pizzeria opened at 2307 Honolulu Ave. at the former location of our store, Mountain Rose Gifts. After months of construction, I was curious. What did it look like? Was there anything left that would remind me of M.R.? And most importantly, was the pizza good?

That first visit was very memorable for me. I went in alone and ordered a slice of pizza. Everything is fresh and prepared to order, so I sat down and looked around. Cute little tables and a busy kitchen right where the cash desk used to be. Who would’a thunk?

It was a whole new place but with our original Italian porcelain floor, like visiting an old friend.

In a few moments, my pizza was ready. The slice was huge, the biggest one I have ever had, and it came in its own triangular box. Being the foodie that I am, I couldn’t wait ’til I got home; I had to try some now. It was delicious, a nice thin crust and hot cheese with marinara. It has been very tempting and convenient having this just a few doors down from my own store. What a treat!

Mama’s & Papa’s has every type of pizza you can imagine. Owner Raymond says the top ones are “The Mexican” with meatballs and cilantro, “The Deluxe” which has peppers, red onions, sausage and mushrooms, “The Margarita” with white sauce, ricotta, and fresh basil and “The Veggie” which has artichokes, fresh garlic and a host of other garden goodies. Very popular now is the “gluten free” pizza.

Mama’s & Papa’s is also home to the world’s largest pizza, “The Big Papa’s 36” Pizza.” This big boy starts at $44.99 and has 60 slices. That works out to only 75 cents a slice!

Did you know M&P makes their sauces fresh each day and uses the highest quality ingredients including real California cheese? The sauces are also found on their pastas and as a dipping sauce for their new bread sticks. Specialty items include “The Mafia Cake,” a Chicago-style deep dish pizza, calzones, and “Egg Gondola” pizzas. You will have to go to their website, www.bigmamaspizza.com, to read about this one. While there, you can order online and get delivery.

You will be glad you did!
