We hope you join us in celebration of our nation’s Independence Day on this 4th of July when the CV Fireworks Assn. delivers another spectacular fireworks show at La Crescenta Elementary School. Starting at 4 p.m. there will be carnival rides, trendy food trucks and family fun with fireworks starting at dusk. The CV Fireworks Assn. is an all-volunteer group that works diligently to bring you the biggest 4th of July party around. It is a 501c3 non-profit organization created to provide the leadership, resources, time and energy needed in our community to put on this great annual event. This association spends countless volunteer hours making sure that the event is spectacular and affordable at only $7 per person. Find out more information at www.cvfireworks.com. Did you know on this day in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation? In July 1776, the estimated number of people living in the newly independent nation was 2.5 million. The nations estimated population on this July 4th is 316.2 million. The value of fireworks imported from China in 2012 was $218.2 million representing the bulk of all U.S. fireworks imported ($227.3 million). U.S. exports of fireworks, by comparison, came to just $11.7 million in 2012 with Israel purchasing more than any other country ($2.5 million). In 2012, the dollar value of U.S. imports of American flags was $3.8 million. The vast majority of this amount ($3.6 million) was for U.S. flags made in China. Information provided by census.gov.
