Glendale Police Awards Luncheon

The Glendale Police Foundation is hosting the 21st Annual Glendale Police Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 12 at the Glendale Civic Auditorium from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This annual event recognizes and honors the accomplishments of the Glendale Police Dept. and its personnel. The luncheon will highlight the successes that the police department has seen in the past year. In addition, the Foundation will announce the Officer of the Year, Reserve Officer of the Year, Civilian Employee of the Year, and the Volunteer of the Year. Glendale is one of the safest cities of its size in the United States. This is no small feat considering they work on a limited budget, with limited staff in a very large city. This is a testament to the hard work, careful planning, and dedication of the Glendale Police Dept.

Our police department not only has the responsibility of keeping our city safe but also has many specialized units within their department. GPD has a K9 unit, a SWAT team, a helicopter team, a DNA crime lab, a police cadet program and an AB 109 task force and it houses the third busiest municipal jail in the county of Los Angeles. It works directly with Homeland Security, the District Attorney’s Office and the California Dept. of Corrections. By supporting the awards luncheon you help make it possible for the foundation to support the police department’s many needs.

I personally love to attend this event. I am always amazed to hear how much our police department does on a daily basis with such limited resources and am inspired by the individual stories you hear about the award winners.

Individual luncheon tickets are $95 and various sponsorships opportunities are available. Individuals may also sponsor one officer for $60 or two for $100 to attend the luncheon. For more information about the awards luncheon, contact Larry Miller by email at larmil@att.net or by phone at (818) 929-6608 (cell). You can also log onto www.glendalepolicefoundation.org.

So where do all the donations go? The Glendale Police Foundation partners with the Glendale Police Dept. to support police operations, strengthen the community/police partnership, encourage innovations, promote officer safety, and recognize and honor the heroism, bravery and outstanding achievements of our police officers, employees and community partners. In the past, the Glendale Police Foundation has used their donations to buy needed equipment for officers, such as safety vests and load-bearing vests, support the Verdugo Regional Crime Lab, purchase portable magnetic card readers, buy video equipment, and even help support the K-9 Unit’s food, medical care and training. In addition, they have also used the generous contributions to put on a 12-week Community Academy to give participants an inside look at the operations of the department. Your donations make a huge difference to the Foundation and to the Glendale Police Dept. The Glendale Police Foundation is composed of local Glendale community members, business people, doctors, attorneys, CEOs, community activists and other residents just like you.
