Inspirations for the New Year
I often tell people the reason I took this job at the CV Chamber of Commerce is because I believe business owners are some of the bravest, most creative people I know. It takes guts to risk your finances and to take that first step in manifesting your vision. It takes innovativeness and energy to keep things fresh and flourishing. In honor of those who started a business or who are considering starting a business, here are some of my favorite quotes about new beginnings for the new year.
“Whatever you do or dream you can do – begin it. Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
“Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision. – Peter F. Drucker
“The secret to a rich life is to have more beginnings than endings.” – Dave Weinbaum
“You will never win if you never begin.” – Robert H. Schuller
“Celebrate endings – for they precede new beginnings.” – Jonathan Lockwood Huie
“Do not wait until the conditions are perfect to begin. Beginning makes the conditions perfect.” – Alan Cohen
“The secret to getting ahead is getting started. The secret to getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks and then starting on the first one.” – Mark Twain
“I never perfected an invention that I did not think about in terms of the service it might give others… I find out what the world needs, then I proceed to invent.” – Thomas Edison
“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” – Saint Francis of Assisi
“Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.” – Vincent van Gogh
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” – Theodore Roosevelt
And for those who may not be starting a business but who want to begin a new project, consider heading up our monthly off-ramp cleanup. The La Crescenta Avenue exit off the 210 Freeway is the first impression many people get of our community. We need to keep it looking good! This is a great volunteer opportunity for realtors and other beautification-minded people. Steve Pierce has facilitated this project for close to 10 years and it’s time for another to take the helm. Off-ramp cleanup happens the second Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Meet Steve out there this Saturday, Jan. 9 to learn more.
Get your RSVP in for next week’s installation lunch and Mary Pinola/Chamber Education Fund grant awards at Oakmont Country Club on Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. Tickets are $40. Call the office at (818) 248-4957.
