The La Cañada Thursday Club is hosting Dr. Lucy Jones, renowned U.S. Geological Survey & Caltech seismologist, as the keynote speaker for the program, “Know Your Faults.” It begins at 1 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the La Cañada Thursday Club house.
Jones will address earthquake safety and heighten awareness of the Great California Shake Out taking place on Oct. 17. She is one of the first people Californians see on television or hear over the radio after a earthquake. Jones serves as senior science advisor for the Natural Hazards Mission of the U.S. Geological Survey and also leads the SAFRR Project: Science Application For Risk Reduction to apply USGS science to reduce risk in communities across the nation.
Thursday Club member Gail Merchant will discuss preparing for emergencies. Merchant is a representative of the San Gabriel Red Cross. She will share tips on making sure the entire family is safe at home, including special insights for youngest and oldest family members – and the four-legged ones, too!
This event is part of the Community Relations Committee’s ongoing goal of providing free programs on current topics of interest to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Door prizes and informational handouts will be provided.
The Thursday Club is located at 4440 Woodleigh Lane, La Cañada Flintridge. For further information, contact Jean Chubb (626) 799-9657.
