Free computer tutoring for seniors — The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA is offering free computer tutoring. To learn more about the Internet world and navigating through Microsoft, call Nancy Turney at (818) 790-0123 ext. 225.

Golf Classes for Juniors — Saturdays at 9 a.m. Verdugo Hills Golf Course is offering one-hour golf classes for ages 5 to 15 every Saturday. The cost is $10 per session and class size is limited (reservations required). All aspects of golf are covered: putting, chipping on course instruction, irons and woods and the rules of golf. MOMS Club of the Foothills is a support group for stay-at-home mothers in the Crescenta Valley area. It will hold its monthly meeting today, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. Jennie Robles will speak about The Birthday Box Project, an organization that empowers homeless families by giving them the resources needed to create memorable birthday parties for their children. Free Smart Gardening Class from Crescenta Valley Water District is offered by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works from 9:30 to 11: 30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17. Topics covered will be backyard composting, worm composting, grass recycling water-wise gardening, and fire-wise gardening. Glendale Quilt Guild Meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the Glendale Central Library. The next meeting will be held on Oct.14 featuring “Halloween Fun & Table Top Garage Sale.” Guild members will be bringing in sewing related items to sell. Meetings are free to members. The Crescenta Valley Sierra Club will next feature Mark Acuna and his program, Native Americans of the San Gabriels at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the CitiBank Building in  Montrose.

Acuna is a Native American Tongva Indian. The word, “Tongva” means people of the earth. These early American people inhabited the area in and around Los Angeles before the Europeans arrived. The Tongva were among the few new world peoples who navigated the ocean regularly. Modern place-names with Tongva origins include Pacoima, Tujunga, Topanga, Rancho Cucamonga, Azusa and Cahuenga Pass. The program begins following news of outings and conservation. These programs are always free and families are welcome. Refreshments will be served. La Cañada Kiwanis Annual Travel Adventures series begins Oct. 17. Each program features a popular travel destination. The programs are presented in the auditorium of the Flintridge Preparatory School in La Cañada Flintridge. Season tickets are $40 and tickets for individual performances are $8. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening. There will be pre-show entertainment starting at 7:10 p.m.

There will be six programs in the series. The first program is “Bhutan: The Cloud Kingdom” by Tom Sterling. Proceeds from this Adventure Series help fund the Youth Programs of the La Cañada Kiwanis Foundation. For information, call the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada, (818) 790-9901.
