Miles Olin and Kathie Schreck (right) met at Clark Junior High School and were part of the first class that eventually graduated from Crescenta Valley High in 1963. They and their classmates helped set traditions for the “First and Best” class by choosing the colors, mascot and song for the new high school that opened in 1960 on the old Clark campus.

Miles and Kathie were seniors at San Diego State University when they happened to sit next to each other on a campus shuttle bus. He asked her out the next week and they were married in 1968.

Now they are part of the committee planning the 50th reunion of CVHS’ first class on June 22-23 at Angeles National Golf Club in Sunland.

“Buffet of Memories: An Evening with Old Friends, Fine Food & Good Spirits” will be held Saturday, June 22 followed by a Sunday brunch at the same location.

Every effort was made to reach as many classmates and former faculty as possible, and a few tickets still remain. Contact Denice Pruden Hetherington at d.prudenhetherington@yahoo.com to arrange a last-minute reservation by June 16.

The Olins raised their son, Jeff, and daughter, Julie, in Thousand Oaks. They have four grandchildren now and reside in Agua Dulce but have never forgotten their roots and maintain friendships in La Crescenta.

Their old friends include reunion committee members Tim MacDonald (senior class president), Denice Pruden Hetherington, Gene Wilcott, Terry Wudke Baugh, Merry Delbridge Shelburne, Donna Gamper Didden, class advisor Shirley Nute, and the “Keepers of the List,” Dennis and Mary MacArthur LeBlanc.
