Las Candelas, which celebrated more than 50 years of service, held its final meeting of the 2012-13 year. During the meeting was the installation of the new Las Candelas president and board of directors. The event was held at the hilltop home of Fran Buchanan and celebrated the end of Monica Sierra’s two year term as president. Under Sierra’s leadership, the group donated $90,000 in programs and services to organizations that serve emotionally disturbed children.
Included in those organizations are Hathaway-Sycamores, Hillsides, Glendale Healthy Kids, Glendale YWCA and the Didi Hirsch Center. Las Candelas members volunteered nearly 400 hours to these facilities during Sierra’s term.
Cathy Keen installed new officers that include President Jeannie Flint; First Vice-President Monica Sierra; Second Vice-President Ellyn Semler; Third Vice-Presidents J.C. Byer and Ginny Simpson; Fourth Vice-Presidents Patti Baker and Carolyn Beaton, Fifth Vice-Presidents Jeri Benton and Margaret Steenken, Recording Secretary Anna Brewer; Corresponding Secretary Cathy Keen, Treasurer of Business Ann Jones; Treasurer of Philanthropy Karen Whyte; and Parliamentarian Joan Anderson.
