The La Crescenta Woman’s Club held its Annual Fashion Show & Luncheon on March 26.

The luncheon was prepared by Sandra Virag and Lynne Roberto and served by seventh and eighth grade students from Holy Redeemer/St. James Catholic school.

Fashions were provided by Draper’s & Damon’s of Pasadena and Florence Virgalitto, “Mistress of Models,” brought back several favorite models including Debra Cant, Barbara Edwards, Tamara Hughes, and Silva Varbedian. First timers Kathleen Linowski and Crystal Policheck, daughter of member Marilyn Wright, also worked the catwalk.

Notable among the models was Jean Bates who first strutted the runway last year. Though some gals are “10s”, Bates is a “90” – she celebrated her 90th birthday last January. Although she stands a mere 4–11 and wears a demure size 4, she towers above many in style, energy and humor.

Next year organizers may rename the event the “Annual Fashion Show Plus” because there’s so much more happening than just the irresistible fashions. There were opportunity and door prizes plus a live and silent auction with over 100 items to bid on.

The most  popular item in the live auction was a ride-along with the Sheriff’s Department presented by Detective Rodger Burt.

Other guests attending were firefighters Captain Robert Sanches and Javier Deleon.

Club members Carol Bennedetti and Dea McCrory chaired the event. Proceeds will be used to purchase a special laser printer for the Detective Unit of the local sheriff’s station and a saw that cuts through steel and concrete for Fire Station #63 in La Crescenta.
