While thousands headed to downtown Los Angeles for the annual marathon on Sunday, a different race was attended by local residents and civic leaders.

A crowd of about 100 turned out at Santa Anita Racetrack for the annual Day At The Races. The fundraiser, which benefits the CV Chamber of Commerce and the Sheriff’s Support Group, provided $25 ticketholders with an afternoon of food provided by Schreiner’s Fine Sausages, desserts and chips from Bob Smith Toyota and drinks by the Pieroni family.

CV Sheriff’s Capt. Dave Silversparre worked the barbecue while Jean Maluccio and daughter Julie Dowse dished up home made cold slaw. Kaipo Chock won $120 in the silent auction with the big auction prize of a boot camp session donated by Linda Taix.

Background ‘music’ was the pounding of the hooves along the track.

The fundraiser brought in an estimated profit of $2,000, which will be split between the Chamber and the Support Group.
